Cornelius Kegs!

cornikeg

Oh well i’ve taken the plunge and purchased 2 19l Cornelius Kegs, gas regulator and tap from the great man Norm!

This allows me to have draught type beer at home. They are not cheap but will definately be worth it!

Hopefully they will be here before next weekend so may have to get another brew on the go.

PS. My name is Mat, i’m an addict.

The 3rd brew is coming along nicely!

It did try and make a run for it on and bubbled out yesterday but has settled down now.

Will check the gravity tonight and see how its going. Think it should be ready for bottling on saturday.

Bottling and another brew

Ok, so the bottling went pretty well. Only a couple of little mishaps with the tops of bottles shearing off but I still managed to get 37, 500ml+ bottles done. A week in the warm to prime then into the outhouse they go.

Also decided to start another brew!

Thats will be 120 pints conditioning before I have even tasted any!

After 2 lagers I decided to go for a Coopers Real Ale 1 can kit. I added just over 1kg of brewing enhancer and made to just under 5 gallons.

Barreled and bottled

Okay,

I barreled the Candian Blonde last week after having a nightmare with different taps on my fermenting buckets.

I also ordered some new toys! A bottle tree and rinser. Should make bottling easier

Crates

Thanks to the nice lady at my corner shop shop I now have my first milk crate ready for my bottled beer.

I’m hoping for a steady supply as I will need quite a few.

Bottles, lovely bottles

The Muntons Pilsner will have been fermenting for a week by saturday. It still has a foamy head so has a little way to go before its finished. Think this has something to do with the temperature being a little low where its sat at the moment, think I may have to find somewhere else for it or buy a heating belt.

Anyway……..

I have sourced some bottles!!

I posted on my localĀ www.sheffieldforum.co.uk asking if anyone worked in a pub and could spare some bottles. A fellow homebrewer came to my rescue! I’ll be picking them up saturday and will have to get a bottle tree for drying too.

Cooper Canadian Blonde

And now for my 2nd trick (brew).

Coopers Canadian Blonde 1 can kit.

1. First pic shows equipement and ingredients minus the brewing sugar as I forgot when taking the photo. There is a 5 gallon fermenting bucket, paddle, 1 can Coopers Canadian Blonde kit and steriliser.

2. Cleaning and sterilising all equipment. Soaked for about 10 minutes swilling a few times.

3. Coopers can mixing with 2 litres of boiling water.

4. Stirring the can and 1kg of brewing sugar.

5. Filling rest of bucket with cold water and added the yeast. Unfortunately had to guess the correct temp as I don’t have a thermometer. Really need to buy one, fingers crossed this brew works!

6. Final resting place for 7-10 days next to my 10 pint brewzer kit

Let the fermenting begin!

Mmmmmmmm what a smell!!

Got home tonight and SWMBO was asking questions about the brewzer pack. As you cant see much with the brewzer as its all sealed I took her up to see my beer kit fermenting in the bucket.

Her words were “Errr its foaming”

It looks just as it should and it starting to get a nice alcoholic smell, fantastic.

After only being up for barely an hour I have had a couple of requests, one being a how to guide for beer kits.

With tonights brew I will take step by step pictures but in the meantime here is a link to a hints and tips page for beer kits.
